  1. From Paul Frank: The proposal looks good!

Maya numeration is a good pattern.

Here are a couple of suggestions: in LCSH (unlike in NACO, so it is easy to overlook), UF’s, BT’s, and RT’s all appear in alphabetical order, within each type. So, all UF’s are in alphabetical order, then all BT’s are in alphabetical order, etc. That just means that the order in your proposal should be like this:

    450 $a Numeration, Zapotec
    450 $a Zapotec numbers
I like the 952 field you added with the description of the resource. If you incorporate that information into the Work cat. citation, it will be a lot more helpful. In fact, there was a subject policy recommendation to do this (add informal summaries) for resources in foreign languages. That recommendation was documented in the editorial meeting minutes (sorry I can’t find the exact summary right now).

So in the 670 Work cat., I would do something like this:

670 $a Work cat: Gyves Ruiz, Desiderio de. Xigāba bīnnizā = Numeración en zapoteco, 2016 $b (the book speaks to the advantages not only of teaching math in the Zapotec to native speaking, but also in using the Vigesimal Mesoamerican system to do so)

Just let me know when the proposal is ready to be forwarded to the next step in the process!

I like the idea of considering a proposal for the Vigesimal Mesoamerican system. As long as there is bibliographic warrant (SHM H 187). I bet it will be very easy to find that warrant in this case.

  2. The Archives of Traditional Music also has a field collection from Ocotlán that is Zapotec lexical elicitation (including numbers), with transcriptions dated 1955. Would that help here as well? Currently the only subject on that collection is “Zapotec language” with a local subject of Elicitations, Zapotec”. OCLC #20957165
